Shefela / Periods: Roman, Byzantine, Arabic.
In the heart of Jerusalem, just steps from the Old City walls, a large and imposing cathedral, with steeples and domes, stands out from the rest of the buildings. The Holy Trinity Cathedral is one of the most ornate churches in Jerusalem and its location so close to the Old City makes it an ideal stop for pilgrims traveling to Israel on the Holy Land tours.
On September 11, 1860, the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity was founded by the Russian architect Martin Eppinge. A few years later the construction was suspended for financial reasons. It was not until 1872 when the cathedral was luxuriously inaugurated, during a ceremony where Duke Nicholas participated.
