This church is situated in Jaffa on the coast of the Mediteranean Sea in Tel Aviv. It is one of the Greek Orthodox Churches in Israel. The church bears the name of St. George indeed it is the martyr and great Christian hero. St George was born and lived in the 3rd century AD in Lydda (nowadays Lod). St. George, one of the first Christians, served as a Roman tribune and died in 303. According to one tradition, he would be the winner of a fight with a dragon. His tomb would be located in St. George’s Church in Lod.
