mount of olives / Periods: New Testament, Roman, Byzantine, Arabic, Crusader, Mameluke, Turks.

Located in Jerusalem, on the Mount of Olives, is this small chapel, where according to tradition is the place where Jesus ascended to heaven for 40 days after his resurrection. It is one of the places of pilgrimage in holy land filmed in virtual reality 360°.

We have an octagonal dome, surrounded by a courtyard, it was built on earlier structures of the Byzantine period and Crusaders. The ruins of the chapel are located close to a mosque and between the Russian church and the church of the Pater Noster. On the summit of the Mount of Olives, this circular chapel was built by Poimenia of the royal family in 392 CE, on the cave where many miracles occurred according to Christian traditions. In the center of the ground, inside the dome, is a stone with a cavity. According to tradition, it is an imprint of the foot of Jesus when he ascended to heaven. Visitors come here to appreciate Jesus’ last place on earth, read passages from texts and sermons, sing and light candles.
